Decided to throw myself into building a second Hackintosh to keep my kids away from mine after having run the first build successfully for 2 1/2 years. I'm building this one out of cheap parts and leftovers, so I anticipate some headaches, but I'm struggling to even get started. Hoping I can find some help here. I inherited an Asrock H61M-HSV MB.

It has a G550 processor. Onboard Video (Intel 2000/3000) (I don't care that this is not going to perform well; I just need a second box to distract younglings.) I have the Lion installer from my previous build (never have upgraded to ML) and decided to use that. Using Unibeast instructions from this site, I created a USB installer. On the new box, I flashed the Bios with the modified 2.5 bios from. I also set SATA to AHCI. With the USB thumb drive in USB 1, 0 and the SDD on SATA 0, I booted from the Unibeast/Lion Thumb drive to start the install. It never got past the Apple Logo.

Next, I booted from the Unibeast/Lion Installer USB with -v to see what's going on. It seems to hang after reporting the MAC address. It just sits there interminably. See screenshot 1 below. Next, I booted from the Unibeast/Lion installer USB with -v AND -x to try to eliminate some problems (that IS safe mode, right?).

The 'Still waiting for root device' message this time. It will keep posting that every 30 seconds or so. Again, see screenshot 2 below. I've tried a variety of other boot arguments, (-f, GraphicsEnabler=Yes/No, USBBusFix=Yes, etc.) but they all bring me to the 'Still waiting for root device' loop. Now here's the interesting part, in looking more closely at the 2 screenshots, it appears to me that I get farther when NOT in safe mode.

The text at the top of the first screenshot is the same as the text at the bottom of the second. More importantly, it appears that in just -v (verbose) the 'root device' is found, RAM disks are created, etc. So, my question is how to proceed next. I see unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist: I also see something about ACPISMCPlatformPlugin:: which timed out (and makes me wonder about BIOS settings and the BIOS flash I did to fix the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement issue with locked UEFIs Kinda at a loss. Thoughts folks?

If anyone thinks I should post this elsewhere, please direct me where. Thanks in advance. After a third night of searching forums, both here and elsewhere, I've begun to wonder if it's possible that the problem is not a hung installer, but that the onboard video isn't sending any output after the Mac environment is set up and the boot process starts up the GUI for the install (not sure if that's well worded, but I hope you understand my meaning). Certainly still looking for feedback, but I'll be popping an EVGO GT 9800 in the box in the next few days to test this theory. Other thoughts?
